Srimad Bhagavatha
Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 4 -
Uddhava's sorrow - 17
Explanation
In the previous day we saw as to Uddhava being able to understand the depth of the Lord's
words while instructing the yaadavas regarding going
for teertha as they have accrued sins (in the form of
curses from the sages). Today we will see as to how Uddhava
was able to understand the Lord's words.
We saw briefly yesterday as to how when a
seeker surrenders unto the Lord or one's own master, there is always an
understanding of the mind. Hence there is a sync up or frequency tuning between
the minds. Thus the master has to just say one word and the disciple will
instantly understand even the deeper significance of the word. We find this in
the life of Paramahamsa Yogananda
as mentioned in “autobiography of a yogi”. Once his master, yukteshwar giri, was supposed to
arrive in the station at a particular time. But then during night, he
appears in subtle form to Paramahamsa yogananda saying that he wouldn't be arriving at the
station as mentioned but at a different time. Yogananda's
friend doesn't believe this and goes to the railway station only to wait
unsuccessfully. Afterwards yukteshwar giri appears at the time specified to yogananda
thereby mentioning that he was in sync with yukteshwara
giri's mind or frequency level and hence was able to
receive message in a subtle form.
Uddhava was the great one
among vrishnis. He started worshipping
Thus we find here that when a person is able
to contemplate completely on the Lord with full devotion and surrender, then
the Lord's words will become clear; the Lord's intentions will be clear; there
will not be any bad actions or words coming from such a person. Even if bad
actions happen, the person will happily remain remembering that it is all but
the Lord's will and play. Such merging unto the Lord at a subtle plane is very
essential to ensure that our mind is ever focused on the Lord amidst all the
distractions that are possible in the world today. Today we find distractions
everywhere - in the form of technological advancement, we have got to an era
where a supreme being is not even acknowledged let alone worshipped or followed.
But this will ultimately lead to our own downfall as we will be lead to sorrow
alone in the long run when things don't go as per what we have planned. The
world is never under our control - on the contrary, if we try to control the
world we will find that the world takes its own course thereby shattering our
dreams/desires etc. and finally leading us to a sorrowful state and even major
natural calamities. But many times people today are so egoistic that they will
not even accept a supreme being even if it means blaming everything on the
so-called “fate” or “destiny” (fate or destiny is an indirect way of accepting
a supreme being - fate or destiny is based on actions and results being given
based on actions performed; how can actions in themselves give results as they
are insentient; if actions could give results of their own then there wouldn't
be a judge to give judgement in court; thus a sentient being is essential in
order to give fruits for actions; this sentient being has to be impartial yet all
knowing in order to fulfill the chores of overseeing actions leading to fruits;
this sentient being is who is called as God or Lord or Brahman; this sentient
being controls everything and yet is beyond everything; thus one who seeks this
being goes beyond the rules of actions thereby making the person unaffected to
actions and their fruits).
Thus unless we attain surrender unto the
supreme being, we will experience sorrow and sorrow alone in this and many more
births to come.
We will continue with the story in the next
day.
Let us
try to gain complete surrender unto the Lord so that we are able to understand
the words of the Lord thereby making us progress quickly in the spiritual path
thus ensuring that we are able to ever rejoice in bliss in this very birth
itself.
