Song of the week ending 31, Aug 2007

darshanam ambike mohanam
sparshanam kaalike paavanam
vigraham taavakam shyaamalam
ugra sattvojalam komalam

O Devi! your vision is attractive (and beautiful)
O Kali! your touch is pure (as it purifies me from all sins)
your form is of shyaamala varnam (dark bluish like Krishna's complexion)
your nature is that of pure sattva (calm and compassionate)

ambike taavakam veekshanam
paapa nirmochakam bhaasuram
indumandasmitham sundaram
santhathaananda sandaayakam

O Devi! your sight (seeing me) liberates me from all sins
your smile is very beautiful and bestows me with eternal bliss

vaaranam samsrithi maaranam
kaaranam devithe smaaranam
shuddha satyaatmakam shaasvatham
sacchidanandamaam daivatam

your thought (contemplation) makes me cross over the ocean of samsaara
as you are of the nature of pure truth (reality), divine, eternal and sacchidanandam

kaamdam mokshadam tvatpadam
jnaanakalpadrumam shaanthidam
santhatham kaalike vandanam
shankari dehime mangalam

Bestowing of fulfilling wishes and moksha is under your control
you are the desire fulfilling tree capable of bestowing knowledge which leads to peace
I offer my prostrations to you always
O Sankari! bestow peace unto me

This song is a beautiful yet small one in Sree Ragam (partial as the svara DHA is not used in it). This speaks about AMMA as devi and her glories in simple sanskrit words. The last para where it speaks about Devi as the bestower of kaama and moksha is the truth of the scriptures that Ishwara or Brahman or Guru is the bestower of all desires whether it is worldly or spiritual. This song is thus denotes devotion as well as surrender to the glories of the Devi in the form of AMMA. The song has been recorded in my voice which can be found here. Please bear the noise, disturbance and awful singing as am not a singer.
