Song of the week ending 20, June 2008

om namah shivaya om namah shivaya
om namah shivaya shivaya namah om
oro ushasilum oro manasilum
olam thulumbunnoraadi panchaakshari

My prostrations to the Conscious and auspicious principle indicated by the symbol AUM
This divine mantra of OM NAMAH SHIVAYA (pancha akshari - five lettered mantra) is that which pulsates in each morning and each mind always (as the Consciousness 'I-exist, I-exist')

Saamba sadaasiva charanaaravindam
Samsaara dukhathil ekaavalambam
Mrityumjayam sivam sivakaram shantham
Raksha maam raksha maam vinaa vilambam

O Sadasiva your lotus-feet is the sole refuge from the sorrows of samsaara
O conquerer of death, auspicious, doing auspicious things in the world - protect me, protect me without any delay

Kapalam trishulam mahaakaalakaalam
Ganeshaadi paalam natana vilolam
Tejomayam aprameyam dayaamayam
Raksha maam raksha maam nitya mrityumjayam

One who holds weapons like trident, one who is the death for even time (and death)
Father/instructer for ganesha etc., one who likes dancing
One who has splendour, one who cannot be known except through realization and one who is full of compassion
protect me, protect me O ever conquerer of death

Vachaamagocharam omkaara saaram
Haram sarpahaaram sadaa nirvikaaram
Gangaadharam sivam kaarunya saagaram
Raksha maam raksha maam gauri shankaram

One who is beyond words and thoughts, one who is the essence of AUM
One who destroys everything which includes all sins, one who is ever without any modification (form)
One who holds the sacred ganges, one who is the ocean of compasssion
protect me, protect me O partner of Parvathi

This is a new song that was taught to us by Swami Poornaamritananda Puri during Seattle Retreat 2008. The song is set in Raaga Hindolam and praises Lord Siva. The song has been recorded in my voice which can be found here. Please bear the noise, disturbance and awful singing as am not a singer.
