Song of the week ending 27, June 2008

oru nimisham enkilum svairyamundo
iha bhoga sukham thedi alayum manujaa - ninakkoru (nimisham)

O Man - do you have contentment even for a moment?
Since you are searching here and there for temporary sensual pleasure, do you have any contentment?

Paramaartha tattvangal ariyaathe maayathan
niyalinte pinbe bhramicchu chaadi
Eriyunna thee kanda shalabham kanakke oru
phalavumillathadangunnu

Without knowing the supreme truth, you are deluded by running behind the objects of Maya like a person running behind a shadow
Your life becomes of no use like the shalabha (firefly) which sees burning fire and since it is attractive, jumps unto it and gives up its life for nothing

Krimiyaayi puzhuvaayi izhayunna janthukkal
palathaayi paravakal mrigavumaayi
Kramamaay uyarnnuyarnaatmaanubhuthithan
narajanmamaarjicchathenthinnu nee

You have become bacteria, worms and crawling creatures like birds, animals etc.
Slowly and gradually progressing from one creature to another, you have attained this human birth in order to get realization of the Atman

Athinalla manujante vila eridum janmam
athinundoravakaasham athinu vendi
Abhimaana dhanadhaara bhogam vedinju nee
harihara parabrahma bhajanam cheythallaaykil

The valuable human life is not to just go behind worldly pleasures but for realization of the Atman
The life will be futile if you don't give you ego with respect to objects/people, give up sensual pleasures and seek ParaBrahman through bhajan and surrender

This is a very old song which speaks about futility of life without realization or striving for realization. This song is one of the favorite songs of my father. The song is set in Raaga Abheri (also known as Bhimpalas). The song has been recorded in my voice which can be found here. Please bear the noise, disturbance and awful singing as am not a singer.
