Song of the week ending 27, February 2009

Kannante punya naama varnangal karnathil ennu kelkum njaan
Karnathil kettu kolmayil kondu kaneeril ennu mungum njaan

When will the day come when I will listen to the divine name of Krishna in my ears?
That day when i will fill my eyes with tears and merge unto it

Kanneeril mungi shuddhanaay naamam thannathaan ennu paadum njaan
Thannathaan paadi modhathaal mannum vinnum marakkum njaan

Filled with tears in the eyes, when will I sing to myself the divine names of Krishna?
That day I will sing to myself and immersed in bliss forget everything (including earth and space)

Mannum vinnum marannu bhakthi sampoornanaay ennu thullum njaan
Thulli kallichhen samsaara kala kallikalennu maaykkum njaan

Forgetting earth and space when will I jump in complete devotion?
Jumping in devotion all the impurities of the world will be completely removed

Akkalam maaykkum keli thullalil attahaasamennaarkkum njaan
Attahaasathaal shuddhi dikkukal kettinumeenu nalkkum njaan

When I will laugh aloud at the impurities of the world vanishing?
At that time all the directions will be purified with this laughter of bliss

Aattavum kayijn amma than madi thattilekkennu veezhum njaan
Veenum amma than sheethalaangathil saanandamennurangum njaan

After the dancing is over, I will fall unto the laps of AMMA
AMMA will then bath me in the cold love-filled hands of hers and I will sleep in bliss

Urangumbol ullil karimukil varnan thiruvudal ennu kaanum njaan
Unarumbol munnil kaayaambu varnam kandu kandangunarum njaan

While sleeping I will see the form of Krishna
While getting up I will get up seeing the divine form of Krishna

This is a song written by the great Krishna bhaktha of Ottoor Namboodiripaadu who was also a devotee of AMMA. The song speaks about the devotee's desire to immerse his entire life with Krishna. The words of the song can be interpreted in one way as "questions about when the moment will come wherein the devotee is immersed with Krishna's thoughts" or as "indirect representation of those moments when Krishna's thoughts are filled in the devotee's mind". Any amount of trying to translate or explain this song will only spoil the beautiful import of the song written in malayalam and set to the apt Desh Raga. Let us bathe in the ocean of devotion with waves of desh raga. The song sung in my voice can be found here.
