Song of the week ending 10, April 2009

Kanna karimukil varna aalila kanna nrithamaadu ente manasinte vrindaavanathinte theerathil
nrithamaadu kanna nrithamaadu
Nandakumara navaneetha chora nannaay nrithamaadu
thithom thaam kida kida thom thaam kida kida thom thaam
thaka thithaaiyam nrithamaadu

O Kanna, my dear kanna who are the small kid in the leaf, dance in the vrindavana shores of my mind
O son of nandagopa, one who is attractive and stealer of hearts, dance well

Maanathozhuki parakkunnethaathira thaarangal than prabhaa puram
Odi varu kanna maadi vilikkunnu ennile yamunaa theeram
Balagopala vrindavana lola aalolam nrithamaadu

O Kanna! In my mind, the waves of the river are glorious and very active
Come running to the shores of yamuna as you are being called
O little gopala, dear of vrindavan dance very well

Kaadum medum thozharum unaratte paaduka venugopala
Kaanatte jnangal mathivaru olam raadha maadhava leela
Nitya niraamaya nirupama sundara nirthaathe nrithamaadu

O Kanna! Sing so that the forest, birds etc. will be awake
Let us see as much as we want (till we are fulfilled) your leela
O eternal, taintless, incomparable beautiful Kanna, dance without any stop

This is a very beautiful song set in Raga Madhyamaavathi. This is a very tough song to sing because of the brigas and strech of kanna. The original is sung in an incomparable way by Swami Amrithasvaropananda. It speaks about kanna dancing in one's mind -- contemplation of Ishwara in our mind. The song sung in my voice can be found here.
