Song of the week ending 10, July 2009

Shubha vidhaayaka siva manohara shashidharaa hara shankara
Bhaya vinashaka bhava vimochaka bhasma bhooshana bhaasura

One who gives auspiciousness to everyone; one who is beautiful; having moon as a crescent; destroyer of bad and bestower of auspiciousness;
One who destroys fear; one who saves us from the ocean of samsaara; one who wears sacred ashes, O Siva I sing your praises

Amara vanditha varada mangala girisuta hridayeshwara
Tripura bhanjana bhuvana ranjana harivirincha supujitha

One who is prostrated by devas; one who bestows auspiciousness; husband/resider in the heart of devi
One who destroys the three bodies of gross, subtle and causal; one who gives beauty to this world; one who is worshipped by Vishnu and Brahma, I sing your praises

Uraga bhooshana vrishabha vaahana sakala vandya padaambhuja
Damaru vaadana natana mohana suranadidhara sundara

One who wears deer skin; one who has ox as a ride; one whose lotus-feet is worshipped by all
One who plays the damaru; one who likes dancing; one who has the ganges on his head; one who is very beautiful, I sing your praises

Yama Vinaashana yati janaarchitha virachithojvala thaandava
Pralaya kaarana sujana paalaka parvathi parameshwara

One who destroys yama (death); one who is worshipped by yatis (strivers and knowers of Brahman); one who creates great thandava nrityam
One who is the cause of pralaya (total destruction of the worlds); one who protects good people; one who is the Lord of Parvathi, I sing your praises

Madana sudana nigama varnitha deva deva sadaashiva
Pramatha naayaka himagirishwara mridamahesha nateshwara

One who has a beautiful body; one who is described in the scriptures; one who is Sadasiva and God of Gods
One who controls the mind; one who is the consort of himagiri vaasini (devi); one who is the God of dancing, I sing your praises

This is a very beautiful song set in Kaapi raga. It is a song praising the Lord Siva and his various aspects. If one is able to remember Siva as the light shining in all beings (the ultimate reality of Brahman), then singing this song encapsulates devotion and knowledge thereby making a seeker get instant immense bliss. The song sung in my voice can be found here.
