Song of the week ending 31, July 2009

Sukham enni thirayunna manuja nin abhimaanam
vediyaatha bhuvanathil sukham engini
Dayarupi jagadamba akathaaril viriyaathe
manujaa nin manassinnu sukham ethini

O Man! You who are searching for happiness, how can you get it without getting rid of your Ego?
Without the mother of the universe (Brahman) blossoming in your heart, how can you get happiness?

Parabhakthi unaraathe manujante manamennum
manam atta malarinnu samamaayi varum
Ilakkunna kadalinte alayil pettu ila pole
Durithathil uyareedan idayaay varum

That mind where supreme devotion hasn't risen is like a flower without any smell
Such a mind will suffer in this ocean of samsaara even as a leave is thrown here and there in wind

Vidhiyenna kazhukante nakharathil amaraathe
vijanatthil irunnaatma bhajanam cheyyu
Phalamenni thirayaathe satatam than manathaaril
Sakalaatma rupiye bhajanam cheyyu

Without sitting on the nails of the eagle of fate, sit in solitude and do atma bhajanam (devotion, meditation on Ishwara)
Without craving for fruits, constantly (always) worship the atman which is the Self of all in your mind

This is a very beautiful philosophical song asking a person as to why aren't you negating your ego and seeking the blissful Self? It is set in the Raga Kambhoji, originally sung very beautifully by Swami Pranavaamritananda Puri. The song sung in my voice can be found here.
