Difference between Vivarta (apparent transformation) and Parinaama (real transformation)
-
Parinaama - Effect having the same reality status as that of cause.
Vivartha - Effect having a different reality status as that of cause.
-
Parinaama - Effect having similar nature and quality as that of cause
Vivartha - Effect having a different nature and quality as that of cause.
-
Parinaama - Effect being different from cause
Vivartha - Effect being indifferent yet different from cause. Indifferent because there is no existence for the effect apart from the cause - different because the qualities and nature of the effect are different from that of the cause.
-
Parinaama - Pot caused out of mud (pot is the effect and mud is the cause)
Vivartha - Snake seen in rope (snake is the effect and rope is the cause).
Vedanta says that the world is vivartha or apparent transformation of Brahman and not real transformation of Brahman unlike Sankhya which says that the world is a real tranformation or parinaama of prakrithi.
